Systems Engineer - Automotive OEM - Garmin International - Yokohama


Job description

Provide local/in-country engineering support to amicably assure the successful definition, development, operation, and system integration of Garmin products in OEM applications that meet or exceed our customer’s expectations. Working directly with Garmin development, manufacturing and quality teams alongside the customer to ensure requirements and expectations are understood, clearly documented and communicated.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Serve as local/in-country point of contact between Garmin and the customer for technical, integration, development and field issues
• Support project deliverables to the customer
• Information gathering, documentation, communication, and translation support between Garmin development teams and the customer
• Translation of technical and business documents from native language to English, and English to native language (emails, presentations, reports, specifications, issues lists, etc.)
• Interpret at meetings (e.g. Checkpoints, Design Reviews, team meetings, customer meetings, etc.)
• Support requirements development and change management activities
• Assist with vehicle and system updates and parts inventory
• Troubleshoot issues and assist development teams for resolution
• Coordinate vehicle validation test plan / support test trips / test reporting, as needed
• Support production launch
• Support warranty analysis (data review / reports)
• On-site support of system integration
• Perform other duties as necessary
Desired Skills and Experience


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:


• Bachelors Degree in Engineering or a substantially similar technical discipline or a minimum of 8 years work experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description
• Excellent academics (international equivalent to a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
• Minimum of 2 years of experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description including serving as an interface to the customer in an engineering company
• Demonstrated business-level fluency in both written and spoken native and English languages
• Must possess Translation experience
• Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment
• Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in both the local/in-country language as well as English
• Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
• Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems
• Excellent time management and follow-up skills
• Proven analytical and organizational skills, with keen attention to detail
• Must be flexible and provide demonstrated success with meeting deadlines
• Ability to deal with confidential company and customer matters
• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint or similar


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
• Excellent academics (international equivalent to a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
• Experience working at or with an Automotive OEM in an engineering design/development and/or quality role
• Proven project management experience and/or knowledge attained in a relevant capacity
• Experience with requirements management and bug tracking software (DOORS preferred)
• Experience and/or knowledge working with Infotainment/Navigation System design, development and systems integration
